Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is set to debut for the Waratahs at fullback this Friday, shifting from his previous role in the centres for the Wallabies last year. He will join fellow Test players Max Jorgensen and Andrew Kellaway in a formidable NSW back three against the Highlanders.

In the opening round of Super Rugby Pacific, the Crusaders aim to improve from a challenging 2023 season as they face the Hurricanes, who topped the table last year. Wallaby star James O’Connor has been named on the Crusaders’ bench.

The Waratahs, under new coach Dan McKellar, are looking to rebound from a wooden spoon finish last season with a strong recruitment drive, including Suaalii. Despite suggestions for him to play at outside centre, McKellar has opted for him to start at fullback.

Other matches include the Brumbies taking on the Drua in Fiji, with several debutants in their lineup, and the Chiefs clashing with the Blues, featuring notable All Blacks players. Moana Pasifika will introduce Ardie Savea in their squad against the Force, who have named seven debutants as they navigate injuries.

Round one promises an exciting start to the season, demonstrating the depth of talent across the teams.
