A series of break-ins across Queensland have left authorities investigating a potential crime spree involving three tobacconists and one convenience store. The incidents occurred overnight in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, specifically in Mansfield, Redland Bay, and Jacobs Well, all within a matter of hours.
The string of attempted burglaries began around 2:30 AM at a tobacconist on Aminya Road in Mansfield, although the suspects were unsuccessful in gaining entry. Shortly after, police received reports of a break-in attempt at another tobacconist on Broadwater Terrace in Redland Bay at around 3:30 AM. The would-be thieves triggered an alarm, prompting them to flee in a grey sedan before they could steal anything.
The most alarming incident occurred at 4:20 AM when three armed individuals with machetes broke into a convenience store on Kumgum Street in Jacobs Well. The intruders managed to take cash and cigarettes but were interrupted by the store manager, which led them to flee the scene.
Store owner Yatin Shori, who experienced the raid, recounted the terrifying encounter. Despite being unarmed and facing off against those wielding crowbars, he successfully intimidated the group enough that they abandoned their plans. Shori reported the loss of a significant amount of cash and tobacco products, highlighting the fear he felt during the invasion.
While investigating the Jacobs Well break-in, police discovered that another tobacconist nearby had also been targeted, reinforcing the belief that the incidents are interconnected.
Currently, the suspects remain at large, and police are urging anyone with information to assist in their investigation by contacting them or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. The series of break-ins has raised concerns in the community, with residents hoping for a swift resolution to these dangerous acts.
