Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth has disclosed that he spent two days in hospital due to a leg infection but made the journey to Sydney on Thursday afternoon to compete against the Bulldogs. Despite his health scare, he continued his impressive form by scoring a try for the sixth consecutive game, contributing to the Dolphins’ surprising 44-8 win at Accor Stadium.

In addition to his scoring, Farnworth assisted teammate Jack Bostock with a try, while also surpassing 100 metres in a match affected by rain against Canterbury. Few were aware of the challenges he faced before the match, as the 25-year-old nearly missed the trip entirely but made a last-minute decision to play.

After the match, Farnworth told Nine’s Danika Mason, “I got out this morning and flew down a couple of hours ago… I just got a bit crook but managed to turn a corner this morning. It was a late call to come, but I’m glad I did. When you’re on the field, you just ignore that stuff.”

Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf praised Farnworth’s courageous effort, highlighting the seriousness of his infection and commending the performance of young hooker Kurt Donoghoe, who suffered a broken nose during the game. Woolf referred to both players as exhibiting “brave” efforts in a tough match.

The victory was significant for the Dolphins, securing two vital points in their quest for a place in the top eight. Meanwhile, Canterbury’s defeat marks only their second loss of the season, allowing them to maintain their position atop the ladder.
