Stefano Utoikamanu Named on Bench as NSW Blues Stand Firm for Game Two

NSW Blues head coach Laurie Daley has announced one significant alteration to his lineup for the upcoming second game, with prop Stefano Utoikamanu returning to the front-row rotation. The 25-year-old will take the place of Mitch Barnett, who has sustained a season-ending ACL injury during last weekend’s match — a devastating setback for the Warriors’ captain.

Utoikamanu’s powerful presence will bolster the front, partnering with Payne Haas, while Max King, who made his debut in the first game, will continue to occupy a spot on the bench. Additionally, Keaon Koloamatangi and Lindsay Smith have been added to the wider squad, with Matt Burton set to serve as the 18th man.

Given that the reigning champions delivered a commanding performance in the series opener, Daley found little reason to make extensive changes ahead of their impending clash in Perth. However, a potential concern arises from Mitchell Moses, who finds himself under scrutiny following a high tackle that led to him being placed on report during Parramatta’s recent loss.

Queensland has already released their squad, which includes several changes under coach Billy Slater, notably the removal of captain Daly Cherry-Evans and the introduction of Tom Dearden at halfback.
