Gold Coast Suns coach Damien Hardwick has addressed speculation surrounding Carlton’s Charlie Curnow, suggesting that the appealing lifestyle and vibrant talent pool in Queensland could attract players to the club. Recently, Nine’s Tom Morris reported that the two-time Coleman Medal winner is contemplating a move away from the AFL-dominated environment of Melbourne. At 28 years old, Curnow is seeking a fresh start in the more relaxed atmosphere of Queensland.

Despite Carlton’s firm stance in denying any possible transfer for Curnow, who is under contract until the end of 2029, Hardwick couldn’t shy away from the topic when speaking to the media ahead of the Suns’ upcoming match. He chose to exclude Curnow’s name from the conversation but acknowledged that the progress the Suns have made is appealing to prospective players.

“During this time of year, it’s common for lots of names to be thrown into discussions,” Hardwick remarked. He emphasised that the Suns, like any other AFL club, are focused on enhancing their squad.

He added, “Removing the Curnow situation, one thing I can confidently say is that people are starting to view Gold Coast as an incredible lifestyle choice. Believe me, I experience it myself. More importantly, they are noticing our emerging team that looks promising. We hope that players want to come here and join us on this exciting journey as we aim to bring the best talent to our club.”

Curnow, who made his debut in 2016, has marked his presence in the AFL with 311 goals in 148 games. Currently, the Suns are positioned eighth on the ladder and are closing in on their first finals appearance, while Carlton sits in twelfth place.
