Australia’s south-east faces a chill this long weekend as a polar blast sweeps across several states, bringing cold weather that is expected to persist until Tuesday. According to Dean Narramore, a senior meteorologist from the Bureau of Meteorology, cities such as Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, and Canberra can anticipate wet and windy conditions over the next few days.
Parts of Victoria and New South Wales, particularly the alpine regions, are set to receive heavy snowfall. Narramore noted that areas like Mount Buller, Falls Creek, Hotham, Thredbo, and Perisher could see between 40cm to 60cm of snow in the next three days, while other areas in the south-eastern part of the country might experience 20 to 40mm of rain, along with hail and plummeting temperatures.
In contrast, the east coast and northern regions of Australia will experience temperatures that are around average or just slightly below, accompanied by abundant sunshine and dry weather. While western parts of the country will see warmer conditions soon, it is anticipated that this warmth could reach the eastern and south-eastern regions by the following week.
Looking ahead, meteorologists forecast a winter marked by above-average temperatures for Australia, hinting at a milder season.
