The political career of South Australian MP Nick McBride is uncertain following his arrest and charges for assault against his wife. McBride, who represents Mackillop in the state’s south-east, went to the Norwood police station on Thursday, where he faced three counts of assault.
He has been granted bail, which allows him to remain in parliament while his legal proceedings are ongoing, although it is still unclear if he will choose to do so. As of now, both McBride and his legal counsel have not responded to requests for comments from 9News.
Since being elected to the state parliament in 2018 as a member of the Liberal Party, McBride transitioned to the crossbench in 2023. He is scheduled to appear in Naracoorte Magistrates Court in May to face the charges against him.
