Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) faced a significant outage that began on Friday at 7pm ET, impacting users into Saturday morning. PlayStation Support acknowledged the issues on social media but did not provide further updates. Reports from Downdetector indicated a spike of around 3,000 complaints from Australian users at 10.45am yesterday, with about 360 issues still reported as of 9am AEDT today.

The downtime has hindered many players from accessing crucial services including account management, online gaming, and the PlayStation Store on devices like the PlayStation 5. Although some users noted intermittent access on Saturday afternoon, many others experienced ongoing problems. This disruption is one of the most extended that PSN has encountered, although the cause remains unclear.

Notably, in April 2011, PSN suffered a massive breach leading to a month-long service shutdown. Meanwhile, the services team for Marvel Rivals and Fortnite also alerted users to potential difficulties in launching games due to the ongoing network problems. Amid the chaos, doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme enticingly offered free glazed treats to gamers in the US. Sony and PlayStation have not commented on the situation.
