The NSW Blues have achieved a remarkable milestone by winning their inaugural multi-match Origin series, following an impressive performance against the Maroons in the second game. With a 1-0 advantage entering the match, NSW aimed to conclude Queensland’s recent series victories, having previously secured a two-match series in 2023 and a three-match series the year prior.
On a rainy night at Allianz Stadium, the Blues put on a masterclass, defeating the Maroons 26-6. One of the standout moments came from Jaime Chapman, whose remarkable footwork led to a sensational try that brought the score to 20-6 in the second half.
Chapman displayed her agility by breaking through the Maroons’ defence and leaving fullback Tamika Upton in her wake, eliciting praise from commentator Phil Gould. Sadly for Upton, she later had to leave the field due to a hamstring injury.
While Chapman’s try was a highlight, it was Olivia Kernick who stole the show for NSW with two tries. After being controversially penalised earlier in the game when Upton was awarded a try from a knock-on, Kernick responded vigorously, showcasing her skills and determination throughout the match. Gould noted her impressive performance, emphasising how deserving she was of her scores.
Upton initially put Queensland on the scoreboard in the fifth minute, but NSW quickly took control. Simaima Taufa first equalised for the Blues with a powerful run, before Kernick scored in the 29th minute, bringing the halftime score to 12-6.
The second half saw NSW maintain their dominance, with Jayme Fressard scoring early and Chapman following suit soon after. Ultimately, Kernick capped off her outstanding game by scoring again, helping her team secure a commanding victory. Throughout the match, Kernick was particularly impressive, completing 23 runs for 236 metres, along with a try assist, a line break assist, and 10 tackle breaks, earning her the Player of the Match title.
After the game, Kernick expressed her pride in her team’s hard work and their well-deserved victory, reflecting the collective effort they displayed on the field. This win not only marks a historic achievement for the Blues but also signifies a turning point in the ongoing rivalry with the Maroons.
