Matildas’ head coach, Tom Sermanni, has disclosed that his squad held a private session to discuss their feelings following a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Japan last Friday. Key to this meeting was that coaching staff and support personnel were excluded, allowing players to address their concerns candidly among themselves.
Sermanni emphasised the significance of this approach, stating it was crucial for the players to collaborate and confront their challenges internally. He remarked, “They had it themselves. We weren’t there,” highlighting the importance of self-reflection within the team.
The session aimed to foster an environment where players could evaluate their individual performances and the team’s dynamics, promoting an honest dialogue about their aspirations and strategies moving forward. Sermanni expressed hope that by coming together in this manner, the players would be able to identify their issues and work effectively towards regrouping as a unified team.
