Clint Gutherson has transitioned smoothly from the Parramatta Eels to the St George Illawarra Dragons, a change made easier by the fact that his contract with the Eels wouldn’t extend beyond 2025. After nine years in the blue and gold, he expressed little sentimentality about leaving, noting that he quickly parted with his Eels merchandise, often handing it out to friends eager for gear. In a humorous twist, Gutherson mentioned that his mother took a more drastic approach, burning her Eels apparel.
As he donned the Dragons’ iconic Red V, Gutherson described the initial experience as “a bit weird,” but he has since embraced the new colours. Pre-season trials provided an opportunity to play alongside new teammates like Val Holmes and Lachlan Ilias, and he remarked on how quickly one can adapt in the rugby league environment.
“The first few days were pretty weird,” he admitted, yet he now genuinely enjoys being part of the Dragons. He emphasised his laid-back attitude, stating he is eager to play and relish new experiences. Overall, while the end of his time at Parramatta was bittersweet, Gutherson has efficiently moved on and looks forward to the challenges ahead with his new club.
