A tragic incident has occurred in regional New South Wales, where multiple wedge-tailed eagles were discovered shot dead, prompting an investigation by local police. The discovery began on Saturday, April 5, when a young injured eagle was found on a property located on Dollar Value Road in Eurongilly, approximately 22 kilometres south-east of Junee.

On the following day, wildlife rescue organisation WIRES attended the site and sadly found six young eagles deceased. The injured eagle was assessed by a veterinarian and, due to the extent of its injuries, was euthanised. Upon examining the carcasses of the other eagles, the vet concluded that they had likely been shot.

Wedge-tailed eagles are a protected species in Australia, and anyone responsible for this act could potentially face severe penalties, including up to two years in prison, if convicted. In light of this distressing situation, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Junee police or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
