A man, released from an Adelaide prison after serving time for multiple child rape convictions, is now being investigated for allegedly contacting one of his victims post-release. This incident took place following his return to the community on Monday, as he awaits sentencing next week in Canberra for abusing Mike Worsman.

Worsman, who was a victim of abuse in the 1990s, alerted the authorities after receiving text messages from his abuser, which included apologies and requests for forgiveness. The texts, according to Worsman, implored him to “let go” of his anger toward the perpetrator. Despite Worsman’s concerns and plea for the man to remain incarcerated until his upcoming sentencing, the ACT court granted the individual bail.

Worsman expressed frustration with the handling of his case, stating that the authorities consistently prioritise the rights of his abuser rather than acknowledging him as the victim. He voiced that the situation reveals an “absolute breach of trust,” allowing his abuser to reach out to him.

Additionally, Worsman fears for his family’s safety, describing the man as a “monster” who is capable of instilling fear. He reported the incidents to police while taking measures to secure his family’s location from potential intimidation or contact.

Authorities in South Australia are currently investigating the alleged breach of an intervention order, which may lead to the revocation of the man’s bail. Worsman remains adamant that his abuser belongs behind bars, reinforcing the serious implications of this alleged contact on both his well-being and that of his family.
