Ingham, Queensland, has been struck by devastating floods, leading to two fatalities. The body of an 82-year-old woman was discovered in a cane paddock after she was reported missing from her home, where she was last seen the evening before. This tragedy followed the death of a 63-year-old woman who drowned when an SES boat flipped during the floods.
The region experienced over 1000mm of rain over three days, resulting in significant flooding and infrastructural damage, leaving many homes submerged and residents cut off without power. Community members are Banding together to ration food, share resources, and assist those affected.
The Premier of Queensland, David Crisafulli, has stated that recovery efforts are a top priority and will take more than three weeks. He described the flooding as the worst since 1967, with the demand for power restoration being critical. The Defence Force is providing supplies by helicopter as emergency personnel prepare to assist.
Meanwhile, major flood warnings persist, although the immediate threat has diminished. Rainfall is expected to remain well below severe thresholds, but further heavy downpours are still possible in the coming days. Local authorities are prioritising road repairs and stabilising the affected community.
