A second individual has been charged in connection with the deadly shooting of underworld figure Mohammed Akbar Keshtiar in Melbourne nearly two years ago. On August 4, 2023, Keshtiar was shot multiple times while walking along Almeida Crescent in South Yarra with a male companion, who fortunately was uninjured and managed to escape the scene.
The 53-year-old, also referred to as “Afghan Ali,” succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital. In a recent statement, Victoria Police reported that a 25-year-old man from Hampton Park has been charged with murder and conduct endangering life as investigations into Keshtiar’s death continue. This man is scheduled to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Currently, he remains in custody for unrelated allegations, but he faces serious charges concerning the murder and endangerment. Previously, another man had also been charged in relation to this case. Following the tragic shooting, a reward of $1 million was announced by police in September 2024 for any information leading to further progress in the investigation.
The inquiry is still active as authorities pursue additional leads in this high-profile case, marking a significant moment in Melbourne’s ongoing struggle with organised crime.
