A search operation is currently underway for a surfer who is suspected to have been attacked by a shark in Western Australia. Authorities, including the police, Marine Rescue WA, and the SES, are conducting the search off Wharton Beach in Cape Le Grand, located approximately 60 kilometres east of Esperance.
The investigation has revealed that a surfboard with noticeable bite marks was discovered at the scene, which has heightened concerns about the incident. The police received the report at 12:10 PM (AWST) and indicated that the surfer may have sustained serious injuries due to a shark bite.
Additionally, the SharkSmart monitoring website reported a shark sighting just five minutes after the incident, approximately 50 metres from the shoreline at the same beach. The situation remains critical as authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing surfer.
