Friends and family are deeply concerned for the safety of Steven Bailey, a Mypolonga man who has been missing for several days. Known for his fitness and reliability, friends are perplexed as to why he would venture into the remote Ngarkat Conservation Park, situated approximately 20 kilometres from Keith in South Australia.

The search for Steven, which has been ongoing for three days, is taking place under challenging hot weather conditions and within dense terrain. Friend Chris Baillie expressed his fear, stating, “It’s scaring us because it’s out of character for him. The whole time we’ve known him, he’s never missed a day of work.”

Authorities, including police and the State Emergency Service (SES), are tirelessly working to locate Steven. Police Superintendent Cindy Healey mentioned that the search efforts have concentrated specifically around the park, urging anyone who may have seen someone hitchhiking on Sunday to contact them. However, the search is complicated by the soft, sandy tracks in the area that impede both foot traffic and vehicle access, necessitating the use of mounted patrols.

Steven was last reported seen alone at around 6am on Sunday morning and was later spotted by a farmer in conversation at 7am. Shortly after, at 9am, a camper located his vehicle, which had become stuck in the conservation park. Friends note that Steven is always prepared when exercising outdoors, often carrying water during his runs, adding to their worry as he has not been located for an extended period.

As the search continues, the community remains hopeful for Steven’s safe return.
