Emergency services responded to a call at Shortland Esplanade near Newcastle Beach around 4:35 am today regarding a swimmer reported missing. Witnesses informed police that a woman, whose identity is not yet known, had entered the water approximately ten minutes prior and had not come back to shore.
A coordinated search effort has been initiated, involving police officers, the Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue, and a Westpac Rescue helicopter, all working together to locate the missing individual. The woman was last seen dressed in a pink top and black trousers, with no shoes.
