Anais Betts, a sixth-grade student at Central Coast Grammar School, suffered severe injuries after a tree branch fell on her during a school excursion to Government House in Canberra on February 19, shortly after 2.30 pm. Currently in a coma with critical head injuries, Anais is receiving treatment at Sydney Children’s Hospital, while her family and friends express deep concerns about her uncertain condition.

Described as a bright and vibrant girl with a passion for swimming, crafting slime, and making bracelets, Anais’s lively spirit has been a source of joy to those around her. However, her loved ones are grappling with overwhelming emotional and financial stress as they face mounting medical expenses and travel costs to support her during this challenging time. An online fundraiser has been initiated, highlighting the struggles faced by her family while aiming to provide the necessary support as they navigate this crisis.

As Anais battles to regain her health, the fundraiser has called upon the community, particularly from the thoroughbred industry, to come together and show solidarity with her family. The campaign is focused on relieving some of the burdens related to her medical treatment and the various expenses arising from the situation.

Following the incident, the principal of Central Coast Grammar School, Phil O’Regan, confirmed that Anais’s condition remains critical under specialised medical care. It has also been reported that three other students from the excursion sustained minor injuries and have since been released from the hospital.

The school administration is actively engaging with Year 6 families, offering counselling and support services to ensure that all affected students receive necessary care during this difficult period. Central Coast Grammar School, located in Erina, is an independent institution serving students from kindergarten to Year 12, about 350 kilometres from Canberra. The school community is rallying together in hopes of providing support and encouragement to Anais and her family as they navigate this harrowing experience.
