A 13-year-old student from Seaton High has recounted the harrowing experience of being hit by a car that allegedly fled the scene, leaving her injured in Hendon, north-west Adelaide. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM after she exited a bus on West Lakes Boulevard and stepped onto the road. “I remember the car hitting me and then being thrown to the ground,” she shared with 9News, expressing disbelief about the event.
Witnesses promptly came to her aid, and she was assisted by a nurse until emergency services arrived. Her father, Ravi Kanugodu, expressed disappointment at the driver’s actions, stating that a basic human response would have been to stop and check on her. The girl suffered a fractured pelvis along with other injuries and was taken to hospital.
Authorities located the car in Seaton, which had damage consistent with the incident, and arrested the 68-year-old female driver. She faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 25. Police are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage related to the event.
