Coral Kerr recently celebrated her 90th birthday, marking a significant milestone in her life. She invited 9News to join in the special occasion, expressing her gratitude for reaching this age, especially after a serious accident she experienced last December. “I never thought I’d see this age and after that accident,” she remarked.
Coral was hit by a car while getting off a bus near her home in Palmyra, resulting in multiple broken bones and a lengthy stay in the hospital. She sustained a broken pelvis, a broken shin, and a fractured ankle, requiring a rod to be placed in her leg. Remarkably, she has no memory of the incident, an aspect she considers fortunate.
Her recovery has amazed her family, particularly her grandchildren, who were able to gather and celebrate her birthday together. Grandson Daniel remarked on the joy of being together, especially considering the challenges Nan faced in the last six months. “She’s gone through her rehabilitation really well, she’s got a really positive attitude,” he said, highlighting Coral’s strength and determination.
Levi, another grandson, expressed his admiration for her resilience, noting her achievement of walking into the room for her birthday celebration. While Coral’s granddaughter, Sam Kerr, a renowned footballer, couldn’t attend as she was in London for a match, Coral fondly recalled their close relationship, stating, “Yes, we’re very close, yes.”
Surrounded by family and friends on her birthday, Coral reflected on her life, saying, “I’ve had a very fruitful and happy and joyous life,” and adding that she feels immensely grateful for her experiences. After enduring months of hospital recovery, this birthday was especially significant for her.
Ultimately, Coral Kerr’s story is one of resilience, positivity, and the importance of family, underscoring a life filled with cherished memories and enduring connections.
