In a dramatic police pursuit in Willaston, a resident named Bruce Fletcher encountered a driver armed with an axe after the vehicle crashed into his backyard. Fletcher was watching television when he heard a tremendous crash, describing it as akin to an explosion. The driver, who was fleeing from plain-clothes officers following a robbery incident in Blakeview, attempted to break into Fletcher’s car by smashing its window with the axe before trying to escape through the yard.
Upon realising the situation, Fletcher advised the driver that exit was impossible due to a roller door. Just as Fletcher was feeling relieved to see police officers approaching, they intervened and arrested the axe-wielding man, using capsicum spray when he threatened them with his weapon.
The man now faces multiple charges, including six counts of aggravated endangerment of life. Fletcher commented on the driver’s disregard for the chaos he caused, noting that he didn’t even apologise for his actions.
