A video still captures the initial tsunami waves impacting the coastal region of Severo-Kurilsk, located on Paramushir Island in Russia’s Kuril Islands. These islands are situated in the far eastern part of Russia, east of Japan, and close to the epicentre of a recent earthquake. In response to the developing situation, ports along the Kamchatka Peninsula experienced flooding, prompting local residents to evacuate to higher ground. This footage has been shared by the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
