Overnight airstrikes in Kostyantynivka, located in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left four others injured, according to local prosecutors. Meanwhile, in the Dnipropetrovsk region’s Pavlohrad, a drone assault claimed another life and injured a 14-year-old girl, marking the third night of attacks on the city, as reported by local Governor Serhii Lysak.
These incidents occurred shortly after Russia announced its regained control over the Kursk region, which had previously been seized by Ukrainian forces during a surprise operation last August. However, Ukrainian officials asserted that clashes in Kursk are still ongoing.
In a separate development, former US President Donald Trump expressed doubt regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to conclude the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, suggesting that a peace agreement may not be forthcoming. This statement followed his earlier remark that Ukraine and Russia were “very close to a deal.” Trump condemned the missile strikes targeting civilian areas that have occurred in recent days and proposed the possibility of increasing sanctions against Russia. Notably, his comments came after a brief meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Vatican, highlighting their first face-to-face interaction since a contentious meeting in February.
The Ukrainian air force reported a recent wave of Russian attacks that involved 149 explosive drones and decoys, with 57 drones intercepted and an additional 67 jammed.
Furthermore, drone strikes wounded individuals in the Odesa region and the city of Zhytomyr. In Kherson, four people sustained injuries due to an airstrike on Sunday morning. In retaliation, Ukrainian forces shelled the city of Horlivka, resulting in five injuries, according to the city’s Russian-appointed mayor. On the Russian side, authorities reported that their air defenses intercepted five Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk region and three over the illegally annexed Crimean peninsula.
This ongoing cycle of violence underscores the complex and tumultuous situation in Ukraine, as both sides face significant challenges amid the conflict.
