British police have formally charged actor and comedian Russell Brand with rape and multiple assault offences linked to allegations made by several women between 1999 and 2005. The 50-year-old Brand, who was previously married to pop star Katy Perry and became well-known as a comedian and broadcaster, has recently shifted his focus to being an online social commentator.
The charges against Brand, who resides in Oxfordshire, include one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault, involving four different women. The Metropolitan Police have stated that their investigation is ongoing and are encouraging any individuals affected by this case or those with additional information to come forward.
In 2023, a report by the Sunday Times and Channel 4’s “Dispatches” revealed that four women accused Brand of sexual misconduct, including a rape allegation, occurring between 2006 and 2013. Notably, Brand has previously asserted that he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity.
