British Athlete Breaks Record Running Across Australia

William Goodge, a British endurance athlete, has set a remarkable record by becoming the fastest person to run across Australia, completing the journey from Perth to Sydney in a mere 35 days. He embarked on his epic run on April 15, departing from Cottesloe Beach and averaging over 100 kilometres each day, ultimately covering a total distance of 3,800 kilometres.

Goodge’s incredible feat has surpassed the previous record, which stood at 39 days, earning him the title of the fastest foot crossing of the continent. His journey took him through diverse terrains and challenges, but he was motivated by a personal cause—raising funds for the Cancer Council of Australia in honour of his late mother, who passed away in 2018 from the disease.

Upon reaching Sydney, Goodge was greeted by a throng of enthusiastic supporters at Centennial Park around 3pm. Here, local runners joined him as he made his way towards the finish line at Bondi Beach, where he arrived at 4:07pm to a rousing welcome from a large crowd, celebrating his extraordinary achievement.

The atmosphere was electrifying as streets filled with cheering supporters, showcasing the spirit of community and camaraderie that accompanied Goodge’s journey. This record-breaking run not only highlights Goodge’s physical endurance but also serves as an inspiration to many, emphasising the power of determination and dedication to a personal cause.
