Residents of the islands off Brisbane’s coast are bracing themselves for the impacts of Cyclone Alfred, with early warnings indicating that these areas will be the hardest hit. Despite the threat, some locals, including Michael Bulloch, the owner of Coffee in Cylinders on North Stradbroke Island, have opted to remain in their homes.
On the mainland, the situation is more severe. Brisbane has escalated its alert level, particularly affecting residents in regions like Redland City Council, who are being urged to seek shelter without delay.
In Lismore, further south, the community is closely monitoring the rapid rise of the Wilson River as thousands attempt to evacuate the risk zone before it becomes too dangerous. The NSW North Coast, particularly in Yamba, is also experiencing the cyclone’s effects, prompting local responses to the escalating weather conditions.
As the situation develops, warnings emphasise the importance of safety, especially with reports of thrill-seekers endangering themselves ahead of the cyclone’s arrival.
Residents across Queensland and Northern NSW have received evacuation orders, heightening concerns for their safety as Cyclone Alfred approaches.
