Police in Queensland are calling on potential victims to step forward regarding a rideshare driver accused of stalking, coercive control, and sexual assault after three women reported their experiences. A 29-year-old man faces charges including rape, threats of violence, and multiple counts of stalking, stemming from alleged incidents in Brisbane dating back to 2020.
The most recent incident reportedly occurred last year when the man allegedly picked up a 27-year-old woman in a white Mercedes A45 and drove her home. They had met on social media and entered into a relationship in June 2022. During their time together, the man is alleged to have accessed her phone without permission and issued threats of violence. Despite her attempts to end the relationship on several occasions, he allegedly sexually assaulted her after arriving uninvited at her home on July 20, 2022. After breaking off communication, he showed up at her house again on August 17, insisting he would hurt her, but left when others were present.
In a previous instance, the same driver is accused of picking up a 21-year-old woman from Fortitude Valley in November 2022. Following that ride, he reportedly bombarded her with messages and threatened to appear at her workplace. She had declined further contact and later blocked him on social media before informing the authorities.
Further allegations include an assault against a 20-year-old woman, with whom the accused started a relationship in late 2020. It is alleged he called her multiple times a day and turned up at her house if unanswered. She ended the relationship in early 2021 and reported the incidents to police several months later.
The authorities arrested the man during a raid at a Ferny Hills residence on November 17 last year, confiscating multiple electronic devices. He is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 17.
Detectives are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been a victim of similar offences to come forward and report their experiences to the police.
