Richmond Tigers defender Noah Balta is facing potential imprisonment following a court appearance in New South Wales, where footage was presented showing him assaulting a man outside a venue in Mulwala. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 30, with Balta assaulting 27-year-old Thomas Washbrook around 12.30am.

Washbrook suffered a notable forehead injury as a result of the altercation, leading to Balta being charged by NSW Police the following day. He is scheduled to receive his sentence on April 22.

In light of the incident, Balta was suspended for the first four matches of the AFL season. Reports suggest he may be eligible to return to play during rounds five or six, prior to his sentencing. On Thursday, Balta admitted to the charges, pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Richmond Tigers have opted not to make any public comments regarding Balta’s situation until after the court’s decision is announced.
