A restaurant in north-west Sydney, Tatsuya West Ryde, has issued an apology following a concerning incident where a rat was discovered in a customer’s salad. The alarming find occurred on Tuesday, and the restaurant reopened shortly thereafter. Disturbing images, which were shared in a Google review, depicted the rat, roughly the size of an adult hand, lying among the food.

The customer who encountered the rodent stated she had already consumed half of her salad at the time of the discovery, expressing shock that the restaurant continued serving meals to other patrons during the incident. Another diner sitting nearby echoed her sentiments, labelling the situation as “unacceptable and disgusting.”

In response to a one-star review highlighting the rat incident, the restaurant offered a sincere apology, acknowledging the distress it caused. Their statement indicated that the source of the problem appeared to be related to a salad box received from a supplier, and they are collaborating with local food authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. The restaurant reassured customers that they are implementing necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.

The owner of Tatsuya West Ryde commented that Google reviews reflect personal opinions and not necessarily verified facts, yet they emphasised that an incident had indeed taken place and was under investigation. They are committed to addressing the issue responsibly, assuring diners that they are enhancing their food safety protocols.

Ryde Council has been approached for further comment regarding the incident.
