Rajwinder Singh, a nurse from Innisfail, is set to face trial for the murder of Toyah Cordingley, whose body was discovered over six years ago at Wangetti Beach, 40km south of Cairns, Queensland. The Supreme Court is hearing the case today, following Singh’s arrest in March 2023.

Cordingley, 24, went missing after she visited the beach for a stroll with her dog on October 21, 2018. When she failed to return home, her family raised the alarm, prompting a search that tragically culminated in her father finding her body, buried in sand dunes approximately 800 metres from where her car was parked at the beach’s southern end.

Initial reports from police suggest that Cordingley was fatally stabbed during a “personal and intimate attack.” Her dog was found unharmed and tied to a tree nearby. Known for her gentle and loving nature, Cordingley was a beloved pharmacy worker in her community.

As the trial begins, it marks a significant milestone in a case that has remained unresolved for years, drawing public interest and attention to the ongoing issues surrounding safety and violence against women.
