Sighs of relief were heard at the Prince Henry Centre as Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii confirmed his readiness for the Super Rugby Pacific season opener on Valentine’s Day. Despite experiencing a minor setback last week, he shared with Nine’s Today that he has bounced back and is fully engaged in training.
The talented player, who shone with the Wallabies last year, has yet to debut for the Waratahs. Suaalii was slated to play fullback against the Brumbies but opted out of the trial match due to a knee concern. His presence, alongside Beauden Barrett, who praised Suaalii’s impact on the Wallabies during last year’s northern tour, has drawn significant media attention. Barrett acknowledged Suaalii’s transition from league to rugby union, highlighting the excitement generated within New Zealand’s rugby community.
Barrett remarked on the increased strength of Australian teams following player shifts, particularly after the Rebels’ exit, and noted the Waratahs’ promising outlook for the upcoming season. The Waratahs will start their campaign against the Highlanders at Allianz Stadium on February 14, 2025. With pre-season trials complete, they are primed for a competitive season ahead.
