Reilly Opelka may face disciplinary action following his critical remarks about chair umpire Greg Allensworth, whom he labelled the “worst ump on tour”. This statement came after Opelka received a point penalty for swearing during his match against Cameron Norrie at the Dallas Open. The penalty resulted from Opelka’s frustration with a disruptive fan, who he claimed intentionally interrupted his service.
The ATP condemned Opelka’s audible profanities directed at the crowd, stating that such conduct clearly violates its rules. Consequently, the chair umpire is obliged to take appropriate action in these scenarios, regardless of the match’s status.
Following his 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory, Opelka expressed his dissatisfaction, arguing that Allensworth failed to manage the heckling fan effectively. He asserted, “He didn’t tell [the fan] to shut up… He didn’t do his job, so I had to tell [the fan] to ‘get out of here’.” The ATP has announced that it will review Opelka’s post-match comments as part of its routine disciplinary protocol.
