A 21-year-old man from Prospect is facing charges of drink driving after his car crashed into a residential front yard in Adelaide’s northeastern suburbs early yesterday morning. The incident took place just before 1 AM on Arthur Street, resulting in considerable damage to the property and narrowly avoiding the water and gas meters. The vehicle ultimately came to rest at the entrance of a neighbouring house.
Witnesses to the dramatic event, sisters Alicia and Lauren, reported hearing a loud crash. “I heard crashing, a big bang,” said Alicia, who later observed emergency services arriving on the scene alongside the damaged car and the driver sitting on the ground after the incident. CCTV footage from the area showed the car racing down Arthur Street seconds before the crash, despite the 40 km/h speed limit.
The driver, visibly shaken, managed to exit the wreckage and walked away briefly before returning to make a phone call. Alicia noted that he was in communication with emergency services while their mother went out to assist. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, prompting the sisters to express their disbelief at the near-miss. “I’m still panicking about it,” Lauren stated, while Alicia remarked, “It’s just a miracle that everyone is okay, that everyone is alive and well.”
Later the same morning, it came to light that the driver returned to the scene to express his apologies for the damage caused, conveying sincere remorse for his actions. Local police have confirmed that the man has been reported for drink driving as investigations continue into the matter.
