Legendary Australian radio broadcaster Philip Brady has passed away at the age of 85 following a brief battle with cancer. Just last week, he revealed his retirement after an impressive 67-year career in broadcasting. Brady was most recently known for co-hosting the beloved “Remember When” programme on 3AW with Simon Owens and prior to that, enjoyed a successful partnership with Bruce Mansfield on “Nightline.”
The sad news of his passing was announced on 3AW this morning by presenter Tom Elliot, who confirmed that Brady had been living with a serious cancer diagnosis. Despite the prognosis, he was remembered affectionately for his remarkable versatility in both radio and television. Elliot described him as a talent who could entertain and engage audiences with a mix of humour and seriousness.
Brady’s legacy stretches back to 1958 when he began as a booth announcer for Channel Nine, later hosting various television game shows during the 60s and 70s. He made his return to 3AW in 1990, where he became a beloved figure until his recent announcement to retire. Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fans alike, acknowledging Brady’s warmth, energy, and lasting impact on the industry. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
