Lachlan Galvin, the talented playmaker for the Wests Tigers, is on track to explore free agency, seeking a lucrative deal with another club. According to journalist Michael Chammas on Nine’s program, 100% Footy, Galvin and his agent, Isaac Moses, have been unresponsive to the Tigers’ attempts to secure a long-term contract, opting instead to assess their options as they prepare for the upcoming free agency period.
At just 19, Galvin is currently signed with the Tigers until the end of 2026, following an impressive year as captain of the 2023 Australian Schoolboys team. However, if he doesn’t finalise an agreement with the Tigers by November 1 of this year, he will be free to negotiate with rival clubs.
Chammas noted that Galvin is not in a hurry to commit, indicating that his management is actively reaching out to other teams to signal their interest, saying, "Get your cheque book ready because we’re hitting November 1." Many clubs are likely to show interest in the young star, who is reportedly earning $250,000 this year, with an expected increase to $350,000 by 2026.
Galvin showcased his skills by starting as five-eighth in the first round against the Knights, partnering with recent high-profile recruit Jarome Luai. Billy Slater has even speculated that a position switch between Galvin and Luai might occur during the season. Phil Gould, on Six Tackles with Gus, remarked that Galvin has the potential to become one of the best players in the NRL and is destined for multiple premierships.
The Tigers hope to secure their first win of the season this Sunday when they face the Eels at CommBank Stadium.
