A proposal has been put forward to invite former US President Donald Trump to Queensland for the Quad leaders summit scheduled for next year. Premier David Crisafulli expressed his enthusiasm for the idea during a speech at a lunch hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce, stating that Queensland would be an ideal location for the summit.

Crisafulli emphasised the potential success of holding the event in the Sunshine State, noting that it could significantly boost Queensland’s profile on the global stage. He recalled the G20 leaders’ summit in Brisbane back in 2014, which featured prominent figures like Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin, and acknowledged the importance of such gatherings in showcasing the region. However, he reflected on how that major event perhaps overshadowed Queensland’s recognition and buzz due to its scale.

The Quad, consisting of Australia, the United States, Japan, and India, is focused on ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region. As India prepares to host this year’s summit, there is speculation that Australia might be in line to host the next summit in 2026. The proposal to bring Trump to Queensland aligns with the broader strategies to enhance diplomatic engagement and showcases the state’s potential as a host for significant international events.
