A brawl erupted at a Woolworths supermarket in Auburn, Western Sydney, around 1:20 PM yesterday, resulting in charges against a police employee and a woman accompanying him. The altercation began between two male shoppers and escalated quickly, involving shoves and kicks, followed by milk bottles being hurled, which led to a chaotic scene with milk splattering everywhere and a cashier getting drenched.
Witnesses expressed sympathy for the cashier caught in the crossfire. One bystander remarked on the commendable action of the woman who intervened to aid her partner during the dispute, highlighting her support in the face of escalating tension.
Woolworths responded to the incident, firmly stating that such violence has no place in their stores and confirmed that they are cooperating with the police investigation.
As a consequence of the brawl, a 34-year-old man—identified as a police employee—and the woman he was with face charges of assault and affray. Additionally, a 62-year-old man involved in the confrontation sustained minor injuries. The motivations behind the conflict remain unclear, but shoppers have condemned the chaotic behaviour, suggesting that public spaces should not host such violent episodes. As one individual noted, “It’s just ridiculous, we shouldn’t be doing this in public places,” while another stated the need for people to remain calm amid excessive stress.
