Victoria Police have issued a stern warning that any illegal protest actions will be met with strict enforcement, as activist group ‘Disrupt Wars’ plans to disrupt the Avalon International Airshow. This group has been staging various protests throughout the week, focusing their efforts on the airshow’s trade day.

The activists are firmly calling for the cancellation of the airshow and are forming picket lines to obstruct attendees. They have publicly expressed their dissatisfaction with the burgeoning defence industry in Geelong, citing a need for action against what they regard as a “family hostile” event. In their words, they demand “no weapons in our city, in our state or anywhere in so-called Australia”.

Police have been proactive, patrolling Beach Road near the airport and monitoring traffic. Protesters tried to block the road earlier, but police swiftly intervened to maintain order. A police spokesperson confirmed their readiness to handle any protest-related incidents effectively, indicating that while the right to peaceful protest is respected, any unlawful behaviour will face repercussions.

The group has previously protested outside the River Room at Crown Casino, where a formal dinner for the airshow was being held. They have further demonstrations planned, including one on Friday and another over the weekend, aiming to engage with the crowds attending the airshow. Law enforcement remains vigilant, prepared to act quickly should the protests escalate.
