Last week in Sydney’s Inner West, highway patrol officers discovered a vehicle loaded with what was believed to be stolen copper. The Nissan Qashqai was spotted on Parramatta Road in Stanmore, with copper pipes protruding from its windows and a damaged number plate, prompting police intervention on Sunday.
Inside the car, three individuals were found, one of whom was seated in a manner that made it impossible to fasten his seatbelt, as the copper pipes encroached into the passenger area. The front passenger also had pipes extending past his head. Inconsistencies regarding the source of the copper led to suspicions from the officers.
The police seized the copper and initiated an investigation into its origin. As part of the proceedings, the driver underwent a roadside drug test that allegedly returned positive results. Consequently, he received a court notice for possession of suspected stolen goods, while both passengers were similarly charged and issued with notices to attend court.
Overall, the incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding stolen materials and vehicle safety on the roads in New South Wales.
