A dramatic 12-hour police pursuit in Melbourne’s south-east concluded when heavily armed officers intervened in a car containing a woman wielding a firearm. The chase began overnight after police attempted to stop a stolen Ford Fairmont, which was eventually located on Police Road near Springvale Road around 5:30 am.

Inside the car was a 29-year-old woman from Noble Park, who reportedly threatened the driver with her gun before police fired at her through the vehicle’s windscreen. Emergency responders at the scene quickly extracted her from the car and treated her for injuries sustained during the confrontation. The woman was later hospitalised with non-life-threatening wounds and remains under police supervision.

Shortly after, the driver, a 27-year-old man from Noble Park, surrendered to the authorities and was arrested. This incident was initiated the previous afternoon when the man allegedly hijacked a vehicle from a family in Noble Park. According to Victoria Police Acting Commissioner Damian Jackson, the husband of the victim noticed what appeared to be a firearm concealed on the perpetrator during the carjacking.

Around 12 hours later, police observed the pair allegedly brandishing the weapon out of the car window. A police helicopter monitored the chase, capturing the fleeing vehicle as it reached speeds of 100 km/h, performed burnouts at roundabouts, and drove against traffic—a reckless display while a gun was aimed at other innocent motorists. During the pursuit, the pair also reportedly menaced a passer-by on Albert Avenue in Springvale.

Both individuals are expected to be interrogated further. The Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation into the series of events, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
