Detectives are actively pursuing leads in an armed robbery that occurred over a decade ago on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The incident took place on April 22, 2011, when officers were dispatched to a petrol station on Pittwater Road in Narrabeen, following reports of the robbery.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was allegedly brandishing a sawn-off rifle and threatened a staff member during the incident. He escaped with a quantity of cash and was last seen fleeing down Robertson Street. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
After the robbery, some of the suspect’s clothing was located on The Esplanade, but law enforcement was unable to identify him at the time. Now, on the 14th anniversary of the crime, authorities are renewing their appeal to the public for assistance.
Inspector Mick Boutouridis stated, “Despite the passage of time, we are committed to solving serious offences, particularly involving firearms. We are asking for anyone with information to come forward.”
The police have released images of a man they believe may have insights related to the case. They hope that someone in the community might have pertinent information. Inspector Boutouridis emphasised the importance of public cooperation, urging anyone with knowledge to contact Manly Police Station or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
The suspect is described as Caucasian, around 25 years old at the time of the robbery. He stood about 170cm tall, with a medium build and short, spiky dark hair. He is known to have a tattoo of barbed wire on his right upper arm. During the robbery, he was reportedly wearing a white cap, a brown jumper with red patterns on the sleeves, light blue track pants, dark gloves, and dark shoes.
With these renewed efforts, police hope to finally bring this long-standing case to a resolution and encourage the community to play a role in solving it.
