Detectives are currently investigating a significant theft involving campervans, valued at around $1 million, that took place in Melbourne’s inner west. A total of at least seven Mercedes Sprinter campervans were reported stolen from a business located on Ashley Street in Braybrook over the weekend from February 23 to 26. Each van is estimated to be worth approximately $150,000.
So far, authorities have successfully recovered four of the stolen campervans, which were located in the Footscray, Flemington, and Kensington suburbs. However, three campervans, with registrations 1QH5ES, 1PZ2LZ, and 1PZ2NJ, remain missing. It is possible that the registration plates for these vehicles may have been removed, altered, or replaced entirely.
In light of this incident, new statistics released by the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency have highlighted an alarming trend, showing that the number of stolen caravans in Victoria has surged by nearly 67 per cent in the twelve months leading up to June 2024, with 174 caravans reported stolen across the state.
Authorities continue to search for the remaining stolen campervans and are urging the public to assist with any information related to this case.
