Authorities have confirmed the identity of a woman found deceased near railway tracks in Townsville on Friday, but the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.
The 32-year-old was discovered unresponsive by a passerby at approximately 9:45 am on Railway Avenue, located at Railway Estate. In light of the ongoing investigation, police are focusing on a crucial timeframe three days prior to her discovery, specifically between 4 pm and 6 pm on June 17. They are urging anyone who may have been in the vicinity during that period to come forward with information.
Detective Acting Inspector Phil Watts remarked that the community’s response to the investigation has been outstanding. He expressed appreciation for the support from local residents, highlighting their concern for one another, which has greatly assisted the police efforts.
Currently, authorities are categorising the woman’s death as “unexplained”, and while Watts refrained from commenting on whether she had prior interactions with law enforcement, he confirmed that her family has been informed and is cooperating with the investigation.
