Police are actively searching for the driver of a vehicle believed to be stolen, following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a teenager and injuries to three others during a pursuit in north-western New South Wales.

On February 27 at 11:15 PM, officers responded to reports of a robbery at a service station located on Burroway Road in Narromine. Witnesses indicated that four teenagers fled the scene in a white Toyota FJ Landcruiser, which is believed to have been stolen and bears the number plate FBS88R.

The police sighted the vehicle around 12:08 AM on the Mitchell Highway, approximately 15 kilometres east of Nyngan, and initiated a pursuit, but it was abandoned shortly after. At 12:45 AM, the police resumed the chase in Coolabah, employing road spikes on both the Mitchell Highway and Sydney Road in Bourke.

The stolen car eventually crashed and rolled over on Weir Road at 1:30 AM. Tragically, a 17-year-old male passenger was killed in the accident, while three other passengers, aged 13, 14, and 16, were taken to Bourke Hospital for treatment. The 14-year-old was later airlifted to Randwick Children’s Hospital in serious condition, with all individuals now reportedly discharged from the hospital.

Authorities are appealing for information regarding the alleged driver of the vehicle. They have released CCTV footage of the stolen car and are urging anyone with additional dashcam recordings or insights related to the incident to come forward. Additionally, a critical incident team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
