Police are seeking public assistance following the alleged sexual assault of an 83-year-old woman at her home in Merrylands, located in Sydney’s western suburbs. The incident reportedly occurred after the woman encountered an unknown man while returning home from shopping around midday. The suspect offered to help her carry her shopping trolley.
Upon arriving at the woman’s residence, he is accused of forcing his way inside and committing the assault. After the attack, he allegedly cleaned the area and took the woman’s house keys before fleeing the scene. The victim was subsequently taken to hospital for evaluation, while authorities established a crime scene to investigate further.
The State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad, under Strike Force Bena, is handling the case. As part of the investigation, police have released CCTV footage of a man believed to have information pertinent to the incident. The individual is described as having fair skin, dark hair, and a slight beard. He was last seen wearing a black shirt featuring white panels, dark blue pants, and white shoes.
Authorities are encouraging anyone who may have relevant information to come forward to assist in their inquiries.
