Arson chemists are set to investigate a devastating fire at a multi-million dollar mansion located on one of Australia’s priciest streets. The incident occurred just after midnight, triggering multiple emergency calls from residents who saw flames engulfing the two-storey brick house at the intersection of St Georges Road and Ultimo Court in Toorak.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) reported that around 30 firefighters were deployed, battling the blaze for nearly an hour. Unfortunately, the inferno completely destroyed the property, which was undergoing renovations and close to completion. Fortunately, there were no occupants within the house at the time of the fire, according to police reports.
The mansion, which had been sold for over $7 million in 2021, was expected to see its value rise to above $10 million following the ongoing renovations. FRV specialists, alongside Victoria Police, are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, including potential witnesses of suspicious activities or those with dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
