A man has been detained in a McDonald’s car park following the alleged theft of a vehicle from a residence in Melbourne’s south-eastern region. The silver Toyota Landcruiser, reported stolen from a Balaclava home on July 20, was spotted in Melton around 1:30 am today.

Authorities tracked the vehicle as it travelled through various suburbs including Thomastown, Preston, Thornbury, Fairfield, Alphington, Clifton Hill, Fitzroy, and Abbotsford, before heading into the Melbourne CBD.

The pursuit concluded when police located the Landcruiser in a McDonald’s car park on City Road, Southbank. A 30-year-old man, who had no permanent address, was arrested after officers found him asleep in the back seat. Meanwhile, the individual believed to be driving the vehicle at the time of the sighting had entered the restaurant and subsequently left the premises.
