On the morning of May 13, 2000, Rosemary Brown, 33, and her daughter, Melissa Trussell, 15, were last seen in Blair Athol, approximately 4km from Adelaide’s central business district. Tragically, nearly two months later, on July 2, Rosemary’s body was found in the mangroves at Garden Island, located north-west of Adelaide. Police believe that Melissa, whose remains have never been discovered, was also a victim of murder.

As the 25th anniversary of the case approaches, authorities have made a renewed public appeal for information. They have identified two vehicles that are deemed significant to the investigation. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke stated that tips from the public have led to the identification of these vehicles, believed to be related to the events surrounding Brown’s murder and Trussell’s disappearance.

The first vehicle is a blue Ford XD Falcon sedan, reported sighted in the Osbourne area shortly after Rosemary’s murder. The second vehicle of interest is a fawn Holden VB Commodore, notable for its distinctive brown trim on the lower body. Police mentioned that a caller to Crime Stoppers provided valuable information about the Holden, prompting further investigation, and they are now seeking that individual to reconnect with authorities.

Despite ongoing efforts, the police have not yet determined the precise role these vehicles played in the suspected double murder case. The South Australia Police have shared images of both cars, appealing to the public for any additional insights.

Detective Superintendent Fielke described the case as deeply disturbing, emphasising that a mother has been murdered and her daughter remains missing, believed dead as well. He voiced concerns that more than one person may be involved in this heinous crime, giving rise to strong public sentiment for justice.

Authorities are keen to receive any further information regarding the vehicles or the overall case. Fielke urged the community: “Someone knows something about these murders, and we implore those who have information to come forward.” The police are committed to solving this complex case, which is vital for both the grieving family and to ensure justice is served.

In a further enticement for tips, a reward of $1 million is being offered for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible for these crimes.
