Collingwood legend Anthony Rocca recently celebrated a significant milestone with his brother Sav, as he announced his remission from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system. Diagnosed in July 2022, Anthony shared a positive update in December, and his latest social media post heralds even more good news.
The Rocca brothers commemorated this joyous occasion by opening a bottle of Champagne Pol Roger that Anthony gifted to Sav nearly two decades ago when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007. Sav expressed his pride and admiration for his brother’s strength and positivity throughout this challenging journey.
Anthony, who played 242 games in the AFL for Collingwood and Sydney, stepped down from his coaching role with the Northern Knights U18s following his diagnosis. The announcement of his remission has garnered excitement and support from former teammates, with Carlton great Anthony Koutoufides and others sharing their congratulations.
Although Rocca has disclosed that he will undergo two years of maintenance chemotherapy, this moment marks a hopeful chapter in his recovery. The brothers’ heartwarming celebration encapsulates the resilience that defines both their family and the spirit of Australian football.
